AMCU is a project led by IMCV (Indonesian Muslim Community of Victoria) to establish an Islamic Centre in the northern region of Melbourne to cater the growing needs to provide full community services of not only the Indonesian Muslim community, but also the wider Muslim community.

AMCU is designed to accommodate up to 350 people, and would become a hub for all community activities.

To establish AMCU it is estimated to cost AU$ 4.2 million

The Messenger of ALLAH, PBUH, narrated

"Whoever Builds a Mosque for ALLAH, Then ALLAH WILL Build for HIM a House Like It in Paradise"
(HR. Bukhari no. 450 dan Muslim no. 533)

AMCU’s Story

The Indonesian Muslim Community of Victoria (IMCV) is a not-for-profit religious organization have been servicing the Indonesia Muslim community in Melbourne with various activities (worship places, Islamic education, social / communities gathering, etc.) since 1997. Currently IMCV operating three activity centres; Westall Mosque, Surau Kita and Baitul Ma’mur Mosque.

The development of Surau Kita commenced in 2009 as a rental premise, and continued by way of purchasing a commercial property in 2011 (a year earlier than planned). See figure above.

Due to the size of the current building and other constraints, Surau Kita can only perform limited activities. Programmes and activities like 5 times daily prayer, full time Al-Quran classes (tahsin, tahfiz, Islamic studies, Arabic language), Islamic funeral services, Youth activities etc. could NOT be carried out.

Surau Kita, “Our Mosque” is one of the activity centres for the Indonesian Muslim community in Melbourne. With the increase activities over the years, the current capacity of “Surau Kita” can no longer fulfil the need and greater demand. Therefore, IMCV is determined to develop a new and bigger facility in order to provide a wider and improved services to the community.
